Parents should be registered parishioners of the Cathedral Parish. If you are not yet registered, please complete the parish registration form.
If you are registered at another parish, you will need a letter of permission from your pastor to baptize your child at the Cathedral.
If you live in Nebraska or South Dakota, even if you are registered at the Cathedral, you still need permission to baptize your child here. Please contact the pastor of the parish where you live to request permission.
Parents must complete the Reborn baptism preparation class. Godparents are also strongly encouraged to attend.
The Reborn class in Spanish is offered on the first Sunday of the month at 1:00 PM, after the noon Mass, in the Cathedral Conference Room, located downstairs by the bathrooms.
For baptism preparation options in English, please contact Julie Krogh.
The Church encourages parents to baptize their children as soon as possible after birth, so they may receive the grace of the sacrament without unnecessary delay.
This baptism registration form is for children younger than 7 years old. If your child is already 7, or will be 7 by the intended date of baptism, please register him or her for religious education instead. Children who have reached the age of reason will prepare for baptism through a different process.
Baptisms are celebrated at the Cathedral at 11:00 AM. Please arrive 15 minutes early and gather in the narthex, the entryway just inside the main doors.
Baptisms in Spanish are celebrated on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. Baptisms in English and Latin, using the Post-Conciliar Rite, may be celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month.
The baptism celebration is not a Mass. There may be other families baptizing at the same time, and there is Mass at 12:00 PM, so it is very important that everyone arrive early. We will begin on time.
A child may have one godparent, or two godparents. If there are two godparents, one must be a man and one must be a woman.
If you do not know anyone who meets these requirements, please let us know. We have people who are willing to help by serving as godparents.
If you have other questions, please contact Julie Krogh at 712-255-1637 ext. 109 or [email protected].
Thank you, and God bless you as you prepare for this beautiful sacrament.
